November Sail
The fall boating season was not as busy as the summer, but we extended the season to the end of November. One of the last sails was November 21st; a sunny day in the 50's with north winds at 10 KTS. With our new crew we motored past the Statue of Liberty, then up the Hudson to the Intrepid where we killed the engine and sailed back to the marina with the wind and current. Running downwind with the enclosure surrounding the cockpit was wonderful. With the sun out a fleece jacket kept me warm.
Bridget and Jen crewed and supplied snacks. Lifevests were used when out of the cockpit and the headsets were very helpfull for communication between the foredeck and the cockpit as we cast off and left the marina.
We arrived back at the dock just before sunset.
Thanksgiving has come and gone and so has the warm weather. There are predictions of freezing weather next week, so it's off to the boat to winterize all the systems. Got the water tanks, pressure water, drains and head winterized.
It's December 5th and the temperature has not hit freezing yet so I held off on winterizing the engine and reverse cycle AC - the water in the marina is still warm enough to run the reverse cycle AC heat. The boat is warm & cozy on-board and I keep thinking maybe one more trip.
We have a few items on our lists for over the winter. We'll keep the site posted.
