2008 Boating Season

Our first trip of the 2008 boating year:

June 1st - 15 kt. winds with gusts to 20kts.  Sailing with full main and full jib under mostly sunny skies.

Kate readies the American Flag on the stern before we head out and poses for a photo op.Later

  • At the Wheel Photos

Steve at the Wheel:  Most of the other boats had their toe-rails in the water, Sail La Vie was steady and we were flying.  I'll let you know how fast after I calibtrate the Speedo.  Sailing always puts a smile on my face.

Mike takes the wheel.  Still sailing in 15-20kt winds.  Note the Body by Bowflex.

This is some serious action at the wheel.  I think Nick would be good at the wheel for racing.

Kate was a little reluctant to take the wheel, but looks very comfortable.

  • Out on the Water

     Heading out from the Marina

    Underway on the Hudson River

    Our Lookouts

Mike at the Bow, Randy at the Mast and Kate & Nick enjoying the day.

  • Spring Open House

Spring Boat Party.  It was a brutally hot day with temps near 100.  Sail La Vie was cool with the new air conditioning.

The summer has just begun.  Our next trip goes here.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!

What a sight to see from the cockpit....

Notice the smile on Kate's face?

Sail La Vie's deck drops down in the front and Kate is actually laying on the front deck!  Still I wouldn't do this in anything but calm water.

The effect with me was not as good.  My girth is a little too large to be hidden by the drop in the deck.  Some ingenious camera work by Randy helped in this pose as we sail past the Statue of Liberty.

It was a good day sailing and a good "shake down cruise" - Nothing broke and everything worked except for the speedo.

Fathers Day June 15th

10-15 kt winds.  A short rain shower did not dampen our spirits.

Everyone took a turn at the wheel.

Grandpa Pete looks very comfortable.

 Grand Dad and Grand Son

 Looking Aft while running.

Trying wing on wing.  That's Manhattan in the background.
